HIGHWAY PINAN/HEIAN KATA CHALLENGE 2017

Dear Karateka and Parents

We are holding our extremely successful Highway Pinan/Heian Kata Challenge once again. As you recall from last year, the idea behind the challenge is to emphasize the importance of basic katas, to level the playing fields and above all, to have great fun. We would like all of our students to participate.

DATE: 28th October 2017 (Closing date for entries 24th October 2017)

VENUE: Highbury Preparatory School, Hillcrest

START TIME: 08h00

CATEGORIES: Individual Kata and Unison Kata (may be mixed, i.e. two males and one female, must be entered as a male team or two females and one male must be entered as a female team)

COST: R70.00 individual entry and R120.00 per unison team.
AGE GROUPS INDIVIDUAL KATA: (4 – 5yrs), (6 – 7yrs), (8 – 10yrs), (11 – 13yrs), Cadets (14-15yrs), Junior (16-17yrs), Seniors (18-34yrs), Veterans (35 years and older – Male and Female Divisions depending of numbers otherwise joint).

AGE GROUPS UNISON KATA: Children (6 – 13yrs), Cadets – Junior (14-17yrs), Seniors (18-34yrs), Veterans (35 years and older – Male and Female Divisions depending of numbers otherwise joint). FAMILY TEAM KATA (all ages)

The following are the kata requirements per division:

White Belts – SHIHO ZUKI GEDAN, TAKIYOKO, PINAN NIDAN or HEIAN SHODAN (any one kata)

Yellow to Orange Belts – TAKIYOKO, PINAN/HEIAN NIDAN or PINAN/HEIAN SHODAN (any one kata)

Green to Blue Belts – PINAN SHODAN, HEIAN NIDAN, PINAN/HEIAN SANDAN, PINAN/HEIAN YONDAN (any two kata listed but must be different in the first two rounds)

Purple to 3rd Kyu Brown Belts – PINAN/HEIAN SANDAN, PINAN/HEIAN YONDAN or PINAN/HEIAN GODAN (any two kata listed but must be different in the first two rounds)

2nd Kyu Brown to Black Belt – PINAN/HEIAN SANDAN, PINAN/HEIAN YONDAN, PINAN/HEIAN GODAN (a different kata in each round)

Unison – ANY PINAN/HEIAN KATA WITH NO BUNKAI

Highway Pinan/Heian Kata Challenge. The idea behind the challenge is to emphasize the importance of basic katas, to level the playing fields and above all, to have great fun.

DATE: 05th November 2016 (Closing date for entries 31st October 2016)

VENUE: Highbury Preparatory School, Hillcrest

START TIME: 08h00

CATEGORIES: Individual Kata and Unison Kata (may be mixed, i.e. two males and one female will must be entered as a male team)

COST: R50.00 individual entry and R100.00 per unison team.

AGE GROUPS INDIVIDUAL KATA: (4 – 5yrs), (6 – 7yrs), (8 – 10yrs), (11 – 13yrs), Cadets (14-15yrs), Junior (16-17yrs), Seniors (18-34yrs), Veterans (35 years and older – Male and Female Divisions depending of numbers otherwise joint).

9th INTER CLUB KUMITE CHALLENGE – 29 October 2016

9th INTER CLUB KUMITE CHALLENGE 2016

DATE: 29th October 2016 (Closing date for entries 24th October 2016)

VENUE: Benjamin Pine School, Pinetown

START TIME: 8:00am

COST: R50

BELT GRADES: White – Black Belts

AGE GROUPS: 4 years – Adult

GUM GUARDS: are compulsory (grade 1 – Adult). Pre schoolers do not need a gum guard. You can get from a sports shop/pharmacy.

MITS: (gloves) will be provided for those who do not have. If you would like to purchase they are R150. Mitts will be on sale on the day.

BELTS: Red and Blue belts are used for competitions. These will be provided, if you do not have.

DIVISIONS:

White Belts. Divisions will be based on age and gender. 3 Karate-ka per division. Each karate-ka will have 2 bouts. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded.

Yellow – Black Belt. Divisions will be based on belt, age and gender. Divisions will have 5-6 karate-ka in, of which you will have a bout with each competitor. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded.

KSA Development Championships in Tongaat 2016-10-02

KZN Development in Tongaat

Congratulations to Budo Karate-do team that competed at the KSA Development Championships in Tongaat on the weekend. All were medallist with Robert earning silver for kumite, Rebecca earned bronze for kumite while young Bob won his kata division and Alec took silver for kumite and gold for kata. Well done everyone for a great day at the office. Very proud of you all.

Kempton Park Dojo Inter Club Cup Challenge

Kempton Park Karate

Our members from Kempton Park Karate Academy took part in The Dojo Inter Club Cup Challenge. It is an annual WKF all styles event hosted by Sensei Takis Chaniotakos from The Dojo in Boksburg. The competition was held on Saturday the 27th of August at the Brakpan indoor centre.

KZN Development Tournament held in Tongaat 2016-08-14

KZN DEVELOPMENT 1

Congratulations to our champions who took part in the KZN Development Tournament held in Tongaat this last weekend. Young Bob from Sensei Kims dojo had a massive kata division to contend with and produced his best to win a Gold Medal. Robert and Alec took Bronze in their Kata division and in the Kumite divisions, Robert was awarded Gold, Alec a Silver Medal and Rebecca a Bronze Medal. Well done!
