HIGHWAY PINAN/HEIAN KATA CHALLENGE 2017
Dear Karateka and Parents
We are holding our extremely successful Highway Pinan/Heian Kata Challenge once again. As you recall from last year, the idea behind the challenge is to emphasize the importance of basic katas, to level the playing fields and above all, to have great fun. We would like all of our students to participate.
DATE: 28th October 2017 (Closing date for entries 24th October 2017)
VENUE: Highbury Preparatory School, Hillcrest
START TIME: 08h00
CATEGORIES: Individual Kata and Unison Kata (may be mixed, i.e. two males and one female, must be entered as a male team or two females and one male must be entered as a female team)
COST: R70.00 individual entry and R120.00 per unison team.
AGE GROUPS INDIVIDUAL KATA: (4 – 5yrs), (6 – 7yrs), (8 – 10yrs), (11 – 13yrs), Cadets (14-15yrs), Junior (16-17yrs), Seniors (18-34yrs), Veterans (35 years and older – Male and Female Divisions depending of numbers otherwise joint).
AGE GROUPS UNISON KATA: Children (6 – 13yrs), Cadets – Junior (14-17yrs), Seniors (18-34yrs), Veterans (35 years and older – Male and Female Divisions depending of numbers otherwise joint). FAMILY TEAM KATA (all ages)
The following are the kata requirements per division:
White Belts – SHIHO ZUKI GEDAN, TAKIYOKO, PINAN NIDAN or HEIAN SHODAN (any one kata)
Yellow to Orange Belts – TAKIYOKO, PINAN/HEIAN NIDAN or PINAN/HEIAN SHODAN (any one kata)
Green to Blue Belts – PINAN SHODAN, HEIAN NIDAN, PINAN/HEIAN SANDAN, PINAN/HEIAN YONDAN (any two kata listed but must be different in the first two rounds)
Purple to 3rd Kyu Brown Belts – PINAN/HEIAN SANDAN, PINAN/HEIAN YONDAN or PINAN/HEIAN GODAN (any two kata listed but must be different in the first two rounds)
2nd Kyu Brown to Black Belt – PINAN/HEIAN SANDAN, PINAN/HEIAN YONDAN, PINAN/HEIAN GODAN (a different kata in each round)
Unison – ANY PINAN/HEIAN KATA WITH NO BUNKAI
